Breadalbane Community Larder – Update

As you may know, Breadalbane Community Larder has been Aberfeldy Co-op’s ‘FoodShare’ partner since March 2020, taking ‘Best Before’ and ‘Use By’ food which would otherwise be thrown away or sent to their bio-digester.  Not wanting to lose this valuable partnership, we have decided to continue collecting these items and have this food available outside the rear of Offizone for people to come and help themselves during Larder opening times (11.00 am -12.30 pm each Saturday).

We will also be piloting two other ideas:

  1. Alongside the ‘FoodShare store’ on a Saturday morning, customers can come to the Larder and collect items from the stock indoors, for a nominal fee. We hope this will reduce the stigma of not being able to afford food and helps maintain customer dignity.
  2. Emergency deliveries of food parcels, without the need for a referral, will continue. This service can all be accessed by calling 07513 ‍652597 or ‍0345 ‍30 111 00 Monday to Friday 9.00 am – 5.00 pm.
  3. We are also piloting an extension to this FoodShare initiative, and anyone can access the FoodShare table located at the rear of Aberfeldy Parish Church anytime day or night (restricted access during funeral services). All items either have damaged packaging or are past their Best Before date. The key aim of this initiative is to reduce food waste which in turn protects the environment. We all have a responsibility to reduce our impact on the current climate crisis and this is one small way we can help.

If you know of anyone struggling to make ends meet please let them know about the support provided by Breadalbane Community Larder.
The Larder is a joint initiative of several local churches and also involves members of the local community.  If you would like to be involved please contact the team on 07513 ‍652597 or email breadalbanecommunitylarder@btinternet.com

In accordance with Fire Regulations, we have to allow access for the Fire engine and to allow people to exit the building safely in case of a fire. We have had Yellow lines painted down the side of the building for this reason.  Please refrain from parking on these yellow lines.

There are plenty of car parking spaces at the Town Hall, School Campus and Dr’s surgery that are within an easy 2-3 minute walking distance to the Church. Please be kind enough to leave the car park spaces for those who have severe walking difficulties.

There will be a zoned area for all ministers on duty at the front of the Church on the grassed area.  Please leave this space for the minister who may be rushing in from running a service elsewhere.
